Charlton Rovers Blues 2 Charlton Rovers Reds 4

Following a week of rain, the sun appeared and drenched the Whaddon Rec pitch with a beam of light. The scene was set for a feast of football that turned out to be a game of two halves and two minutes.

The Reds kicked off and the Blues were quick to steal the ball and advance towards the Reds goal. Reds were able to sniff out the danger and the action quickly moved to the other end of the pitch where Andrew (Reds) broke through a tackle from Henry but saw Finn (playing in goal) clear the ball from his toes.

From the resultant corner the Blues broke down the right and a pass from Joe A to Tim saw him beat the on rushing Reds defender and send in a cross to Ollie. Ollie shot on the turn but saw his effort land in the grateful arms of the keeper.

Andrew broke free from the Blues defence but saw his shot go passed the left hand side of Finn's post.

Tim was beginning to find a lot of space on the right and went on another run that forced a throw in. From Will's throw, Joe C battled to win the ball in the Red's area, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted the ball into the net with his left foot from an acute angle. It was a deserved lead, but was described as an 'awful goal' by the Reds coach.

Tim continued to battle well in midfield and a fantastic run down the left saw him beat one defender and send in a left footed cross that was met by Joe C just inside the Reds' area. Unfortunately Joe's side footed shot passed narrowly beyond the Reds' post.

The action moved into the Blues' half and a shot from Dom passed wide of Finn's right post.

Tim again found himself in the thick of the action and picked the ball up on the half way line. He ran at the Reds' defence and beat three players before unleashing a shot from the edge of the area. Unfortunately the shot went wide of the goal.

The Blues were starting to command the game and the Reds coach expressed his concerns with the marking. Blues earned a free kick just outside the area and Will's shot was saved one handed by the Reds' goalkeeper.

At the other end of the pitch Reds earned a corner on the left. From the cross Finn was able to safely gather a header on goal.

With 2 minutes to half time, the Reds stole the ball just inside the Blues' half and moved the ball to the right wing. The resultant cross come shot was parried by Finn, but unfortunately fell at the grateful feet of Andrew who was able to tap the ball in and level the scores at 1 - 1.

From the kick off, the Reds striker Andrew, buoyed by his goal, was quick off the mark and stole the ball from Will. He drifted through the shocked Blues' defence of Owen and Joe A and sent his shot passed Will and into the back of the net. The Reds were ecstatic and shocked that they had turned the game on its head.

From the kick off, which the referee belatedly stopped the Reds encroaching, the half time whistle was blown.

The second half started off very scrappily with neither team able to construct anything.

From out of nowhere, Ronan picked up the ball in the Blues' half and shot from outside the Blues' area. The ball hit the inside of the Blues' post and sneaked in passed the diving Finn. From being in control of the game, the Blues found themselves 3 - 1 behind.

The scrappy play continued and following a cross from the left from the Reds, the Blues defence missed the opportunity to clear. Louie shot and saw the ball rebound off Joe A, but the ball landed at the feet of Dom who coolly slotted the ball passed Finn from close range.

The Reds had snatched control of the game and a driving run from Ronan was only thwarted by Finn who dived bravely at his feet.

The Blues made some changes and Dewi put it upon himself to try and change things. With one run he broke down the left and saw his cross turned wide by Ollie.

Dewi broke from the half way line and ran through the Reds' defence but saw his shot pass wide of the post.

The Blues were starting to fight their way back into the game, and Tim and Dewi managed to win the ball on the edge of the Reds' area. Dewi shot and the ball passed the outstretched arms of the Reds' goalkeeper to bring the score back to 4 - 2.

With the last attack of the game, Tim charged forwards evading a couple of tackles, but saw his cross turned away by the Reds' defence. The referee blew his whistle and the Reds had won the day.
