Charlton Rovers Blues attended the Cleeve Colts 7-a-side tournament. The Under 10's tournament was split into two groups of four teams each followed by semi finals and the final.
Group Stage
Swindon Village 2 Charlton Rovers Blues 0
A game that saw the Blues concede two penalties - two more than they had conceded all season. The first penalty was awarded in the first half when
Joe A leapt to head a corner away and a Swindon Village player bounced into him.
(Swindon Village score the first of their two penalties.)
The second penalty was conceded when Tim and Dewi took the ball away from a Swindon Village striker in the area, only to see him fall over and win a penalty.
Both penalties were tucked away well by the Swindon Village striker and
left Luke, making his debut in goal, with no chance. In between the game was very even with Joe C going closest for the Blues with an audatious shot from the
half way line when he spotted the goalkeeper out of his goal - he was returning the ball to the adjacent pitch. The Blues lost the game but gained respect
for their attitude under trying circumstances.
(Swindon Village score the second of their two penalties.)
Cleeve Colts 'B' 0 Charlton Rovers Blues 1
The Blues put in an excellent performance to beat Cleeve Colts 1 - 0. Dewi scored the only goal of the game following a long ball forward from Charlotte. Dewi's
initial shot lodged between the knees of the goalkeeper, but before he was able to put any hands on it, Dewi prodded it into the back of the net.
The overall team performance was outstanding and the Blues never looked like conceding, but more importantly looked sharp in midfield and very creative. Joe C, Ollie and Tim
both had good efforts on goal that were worthy of better.
(Tussle in the box.)
(Simon shakes hands with the referee after a penalty free game.)
Southside 1 Charlton Rovers Blues 1
This was a hard fought but very even game. Both teams looked to attack and Southside were first on the score sheet with a goal from a corner. The Blues fought
back, and in the second half, a rampaging run down the right from Tim, skipping past two flying challenges led to a cross into the Cleeve area, where Joe C
lashed the ball into the back of the net. Both teams continued to attack but the draw was a fair result and meant that the Blues progressed into the semi final
having accumulated more points than Southside in the league table.
(Joe C takes a dive in the penalty area a little too early.)
(Tim beats a Southside defender.)
Semi-final - Charlton Rovers Blues 0 Cleeve Colts 'A' 1
Another hard fought game against the team that had knocked the Blues out of the Swindon Village semi finals. Early pressure from the Blues
led to Ollie finding himself with an open net. Unfortunately his prod forwards with the outside of his boot hit the post and went wide.
The second half saw Cleeve score from their only meaningful attack (both teams having cancelled each other out in midfield). A skillful run down the left
from the Cleeve winger saw him dart between numerous challenges and pull the ball back for the Cleeve striker to power it past the helpless Luke in the Blues'
goal. It was unfortunate for the Blues who had defended superbly all day. Neither team threatened any further and Cleeve went on to the final which they won 3 - 0.
