14/05/2006 Charlton Rovers Dads' 6-a-side tournament
Kevin, Michael, Jon, Matt, Mark, Simon, Neil

It was time for the Dads to either embarass themselves or show the team how it should be done. The tournament was split into two groups of four teams each, with the two top teams qualifying for the semi final and ultimately final.

Group Stage

1st Group game - U9's Blues v U11's 'C'

A perfect start for the U9's Blues saw the U9's romp to an emphatic win thanks to good teamwork and excellent movement. Michael opened the scoring before Matt blasted in the second. Simon added a third following a clever one-two with Matt. Michael added a second and the fourth for the team before Jon rounded off a simple tap in following a long ball from Michael.

Goals came from Matt, Michael 2, Jon and Simon.

Result: U9's Blues 5 U11's C 0

2nd Group game - U9's Blues v Sat Club B

A fantastic display of goalkeeping by the Sat Club B goalkeeper frustrated the U9's. Time after time the keeper performed heroics to keep shots from Kevin, Matt, Mark and Michael out and earn the Sat Club a draw.

Result: U9's Blues 0 Sat Club 0

3rd Group game - U9's Blues v U9's Reds

The Blues dominated the game and deservedly reached half time follwoing a well worked goal from Matt. The half time talk revolved around the goal that never was. Seconds before half time, Neil, the Blues goalkeeper decided to go on a run the half way line. His resultant pass landed at the feet of a reds player on the half way line. Seeing the goal empty, the reds player 'lobbed' the ball goalwards. Just before the ball hit the back of the net the half time whistle blew which resulted in the goal being disallowed. The second half saw the Blues dominate again and were justly rewarded when Jon netted from a well worked move that involved most of the team.

Goals came from Matt and Jon.

Result: U9's Blues 2 U9's Reds 0

Semi Final

U9's Blues v U13's Blues

A hard fought game saw both teams miss chances and both team's goalkeepers perform heroics. The U13's cleared two efforts off their line following goalmouth scambles, but the resultant scoreline reflected the eveness of the teams. Fittingly the game went to penalties where it was left to the goalkeepers to decide the outcome of the match.

Kevin sets Jon up with a defence splitting pass. Unfortunately Jon troubled the allotments behind the goal more than the goalkeeper.

U9's opted to shoot first and saw Michael's first effort sail over the bar. Fortunately the U13's reciprocated and pulled their penalty wide.

Matt stepped up for the U9's and blasted home his penalty. The U13's again followed suit and levelled the score.

Simon stepped up to take the third penalty but saw his effort brilliantly saved by the U9's goalkeeper. Cometh the hour, cometh the man, and Neil was the man. He dived magnificantly to his right and parried the U13's penalty away.

Sudden death saw Jon slot home the his penalty, sneaking in off the post. Neil then repeated his feats of the previous penalty and dived to his right to superbly save and send the U9's into the final.

Result: U9's Blues 0 U13's Blues 0 (2 - 1 on penalties)

Final

Final - U9's Blues v U15's

The U9's conceded their first goal in open play when the U15's scored a well worked goal in the first half. Both teams battled for possession and both goalkeepers kept the opposition out. At half time the U15's led by one goal. The U9's pushed forward in the second half and saw chances from Matt and Mike saved and narrowlly wide. With tiredness starting to set in and one minute left on the clock Jon appeared at the back post to head home a perfect cross from Michael and send the game into penalties.

U9's elected to take the first penalty. Matt stepped forward and blasted home the first penalty. Neil was unlcuky not to get a hand to the U15's first penalty that was placed into the corner of the net.

Kevin stepped up and slotted the second penalty into the left corner, but again the U15's managed to beat the diving Neil in the U9's goal.

Simon had the unenvious job of taking the third penalty and unfortunaley saw his shot fly over the top of the bar.

It was left to Neil to perform more heroics, but unfortunately a well taken penalty just evaded his right hand. The U15's won a hard fought game and lifted the Charlton Rovers Dads' tounament.

Result: U9's Blues 1 U15's 1 (2 - 3 on penalties)
