Following the success over St.Marks, the Blues took the field against Lakeside. A very slow first half saw both defences coming out on top with Joe A, Charlotte and
Finn (playing as the holding midfielder) keeping the Lakeside attack in check. The only play of note was a shot from Joe C from outised the area that went wide and
an attack that involved Charlotte driving towards the edge of the area, only for Ollie to take the ball out of her stride.
(Simon passes on instructions to the defence in an uneventful first half.)
The scond half saw a different story though with Ben winning the ball from the kick off and sending a first time shot narrowlly wide of the join between the post and
the crossbar.
Soon after Will picked the ball up on the edge of the area and ran at the Lakeside defence. Knocking the ball between two defenders, he found his path blocked and the
referree rightly blew up for a free kick. Will stood up and opted to take the kick himself from the right hand edge of the area. Will shot directly at goal. The Lakeside
goalkeeper was unable to hold the ball, and following a goal mouth scramble, Joe A bundled the ball over the line for his first goal of the season.
Straight from the kick off, Ben won the ball and fed Will. Fresh from his free kick, Will fired in a shot from outside the area that went straight into the greatful
arms of the Lakeside goalkeeper.
The Blues continued to control the second half. Will won the ball from the Lakeside defence and fed Ben on the right. Ben moved towards the Lakeside area but saw his
shot almost hit the corner flag.
Soon after, Finn won the ball on the halfway line and fed it to Will. Will drove forward to the left hand edge of the Lakeside penalty area. Using the outside of
his boot he crossed the ball to the on rushing Harry, but Harry was unlucky to see the goalkeeper palm the ball out of his stride and away to safety.
The next action came from a Blues throw in on the left, deep into the Lakeside half. Harry battled to knock the ball to Joe C on the left hand edge of the area. Joe C
swung a left foot shot at the advancing goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper parried it back. Joe C then swung with his right foot, but the goalkeeper was again able to
parry it, but this time also pounce on the ball to avert any danger.
(Charlotte clears to safety)
With timing ticking away, Hnery in the Blues goal had not had a shot to save. With less than a minute remaining on the clock, there then came a moment of
indecision in the Blues defence that led to the ball going out for a corner. The first Lakeside corner was dealt with well with Joe A heading the ball out for
another corner. From the subsequent corner though, Joe A got the slightest of touches that caused the ball to hit Henry's left arm and richochet unluckily into the
back of the Blues net. It was a cruel blow as the Blues had dominated the half and deserved a win. The situation was made worse as the referree blew up
for full time as soon as the kick off was taken.
