Leckhampton Rovers 'A' 7 Charlton Rovers Blues 2

The Blues second game of the season was against a very strong Leckhampton Rovers 'A' team. After a demoralising first half where Leckhampton ran in 5 goals without the Blues even warming the Leckhampton keepers hands, a second half fight back saw the Blues eventually go down 7 - 2.

In the Blues defence, they played the first half into a very strong wind which meant that any clearances or goal kicks did not get very far and were returned with interest. Leckhampton were first to every ball and won most of the 50:50 challenges. The defence tried to protect Luke in the Blues goal, but wave after wave of attack broke took its toll. In goal Luke made 3 good saves to keep the score down.

The second half saw the Blues put in a much improved performance. Playing with the wind they were able to match Leckhampton goal for goal. The first of the Blues' goals was scored by Joe B. From a corner on the right, the ball was cleared to Finn. Finn chipped the ball back into Leckhampton penalty area where Joe B battled with a Leckhampton Rovers defender. Joe won the battle and lashed the ball into the back of the net.

The second Blues goal was created by a fantastic run by Tim on the left. Picking the ball up from just outside his own penalty area, Tim ran the full length of the pitch, skipping past four tackles. When he reached the edge of the Leckhampton penalty area, he cut back inside and managed to work the ball to Joe B. Joe mis-kicked the ball into a Leckhampton defender, but Ollie was quick to react and poked the ball goalwards. The Leckhampton goalkeeper parried the ball, but again Ollie was quickest to react, and stabbed the ball into the back of the net.

Other highlights of the game for the Blues saw two more mazy runs by Tim, a lovely piece of skill from Joe C to coast between two Leckhampton players, a shot from Harry that was well saved by the Leckhampton goalkeeper and a shot from Charlotte from the edge of the penalty area that unfortunately cleared the cross bar.

The Blues were outplayed, but will take away some hope from their second half performance.
