On a hot summers day Charlton Rovers Blues attended the Swindon Village 6-a-side tournament. The Under 10's tournament was split into two groups of four teams each followed by semi finals and the final.
Group Stage
Leckhampton Rovers 2 Charlton Rovers Blues 0
The Blues gave thier all against a big and strong Leckhampton team but ended up losing the first game of the tournament. The Blues were out muscled and lost
to two goals that will go down as quick thinking from the Leckhampton forwards rather than classics. In goal
Finn made two very good saves, but the Blues were out muscled in midfield and weren't able to threaten the
Leckhampton goal. Leckhampton were deserved winners.
(Finn gets the defence ready for a corner.)
(Joe A and Charlotte discuss tactics.)
Swindon Village Yellows 0 Charlton Rovers Blues 0
The second game of the tournament saw the Blues put in a very good performance. The two sides were evenly matched with
both teams cancelling each other out. Finn in goal did not have to make a save and Joe A was a rock in defence
making some excellent tackles. Up front Joe C was unfortunate with a free kick that hit the side netting. Elsewhere Joe A slid in a nice
pass to Joe B who laid off a first time pass to Tim. Tim was thwarted by the bravery of the Swindon Village goalkeeper.
A draw was probably a fair result, but the Blues felt they were unfortuante.
(Mo and George realise there is more than one way to stop the opposition.)
(Who said there was more to life than football?.)
(Joe C stands tall.)
Cleeve Colts 'B'' 0 Charlton Rovers Blues 0
Another good performance from the Blues that could have resulted in a win. Good performances from Tim and George
almost unlocked the Cleeve defence, but once again a goal proved hard to come by. In the Blues net, Finn again
didn't have a save to make, keeping his second clean sheet in a row. The Blues thought they had blown their chances
of qualifying, but once all of the results were evaluated they progressed through to the semi finals on goal
difference having not scored a goal in the competition.
(Joe A prepares to take a corner.)
(The ball goes missing against Cleeve.)
Semi-final - Charlton Rovers Blues 1 Cleeve Colts 'A' 2
This was a very good game that saw the Blues take the lead through a very good goal from George. From a Cleeve goal kick
George robbed the ball from the Cleeve defender and bore down on the Cleeve goal. Coolly, George slotted the
ball into the corner of the Cleeve net to give the Blues an early lead.
Cleeve came back into the game and scored a well worked goal. Winning the ball from a Blues throw in, the Cleeve
midfielder worked his way to the right hand corner and played in a great cross the was side footed into the back
of the Blues net to level the score.
The game went from end to end with neither goalkeeper being tested until unfortunately for the Blues, the same goal
scorer struck again in the second half, working his way past three tackles and slotting the ball into the corner
of the Blues' goal to give Cleeve a decisive lead.
Neither team threatened any further and Cleeve went on to the final.
(Joe B forgets to take the ball.)
