On a day of heavy rain and strong wins the Charlton Rovers Blues entertained the Swindon Village Bowmen at the Beeches. Before the
match began, the Bowmen were second in the league.
The Blues won the toss and decided to play with the wind behind their backs. The decision proved decisive as the weather took a turn
for the better in the second half. A bright start saw the game flow from end to end with both teams trying the establish a foothold.
Unfortunately it the Bowmen who took the lead. A break down the right leading to a dangerous cross that flashed across the Blues
penalty area where it was met be the left winger, who scooped a first time shot into the Blues net.
The Blues were quick to bounce back though and a break from Will saw a first time shot narrowlly pass the Bowmens upright. From the goal
kick, Dewi, slotted a pass through to Will. Will sprinted onto the pass and knocked it beyond the on-rushing goalkeeper. Keeping his cool
Will passed the ball into the back of the net to level up the scores.
The game continued to flow even though the weather did its best to try and prevent it. Both teams had opportunities before, from a Bowmen
corner, the Blues were able to break away and score. From the corner, Joe C passed the ball to Harry on the half way line. Turning smartly
Harry passed the ball to Will who steamed forward and out paced the Bowmen defence. Reaching the Bowmen penalty area, Will unleashed an
unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net to give the Blues a lead that they were not to relinquish.
(Ben and Dewi look forward to the second half.)
The second half saw the Blues battle for every ball. There were chances for both teams to score, but the Blues defence and Luke in goal
managed to keep the Bowmen at bay. At the other end Will was unlucky not to get his hatrick, and Dewi had a goal disallowed for
offside (the third for the season for the team). It was a well deserved win for the Blues and a great team performance with every player
showing great commitment.
(Tim battles away.)
